You can choose to study at home or come to the learning center and use our up-to-date computer labs.
We offer 360+ instructor-led online courses, from professional technical development to personal interest, through a partnership with Ed2Go. Classes are convenient and affordable. You will spend two to four hours each week completing two lessons in an interactive learning environment in which you will be able to interact with instructors and fellow students in online discussion areas. Most courses begin near the middle of each month and last six weeks. Upon completion of a course with a passing score, you will get confirmation of completion from your learning institution. Most of these courses are 24 hours and may be used for professional CEUs or in addition to campus courses for high school completions.

This course centers on the biosphere emphasizing investigation, analysis, and critical thinking of content through lab experience research, Lab activities will promote technical lab competence, utilize the scientific process of research and reporting, as well as teach and reinforce scientific concepts. This course fulfills the science requirement for high school completion.

C.N.A. (Certified Nurse Assistant)

This is designed to prepare students for State of Maine certification. It consists of 100 hours of classroom, 20 hours of lab, and 100 hours of clinical experience. The classes are held two nights and Saturday each week. Instructor will provide a schedule the 1st week of class. Upon successful completion of the classroom, laband clinical components, students will be given the State of Maine CNA competency test along with all necessary forms required to be placed on the State of Maine CNA registry.
Note: To be accepted into this course studentsmust complete an application, interview with the instructor and pass a reading comprehension test with a minimum 9th grade level.

Chemistry with Lab

Each unit in chemistry lab uses a central theme to teach each a chemistry concept, thus providing learners with a cohesive and connected learning experience. This course emphasizes investigation, analysis, and critical thinking of content through lab experience.. Lab activities will promote technical lab competence, utilize the scientific process of research and reporting, as well as teach and reinforce scientific concepts. This course fulfills the science requirement for high school completion. This course is offered spring semester only. (Prequisite for Nursing Degree.)

“Pharmacology” - Medication Technician
This course teaches information about medications and their administration (under nursing supervision). Drug interactions, side effects and record keeping are an important part of this course. Equivalent of at least one year of full-time employment as a CNA required prior to acceptance. Must be currently on the Maine State CNA Registry in good standing.Students are required to have access to a (nursing) drug reference book. Most employers will have these available on site. Note: students must pass a reading comprehension test with at least a 10th grade level for entry into this course.

College Transitions Program

This preparatory course is designed to meet the needs of students who would like to explore the idea of attending college or need to brush up on writing, math and/or science in preparation for enrolling in college. The program of study includes career planning, academic preparation, financial aid assistance, college planning and
ACCUPLACER testing. We work in partnership with community colleges and the university system to offer high-quality, cost-effective and accessible pathways to post-secondary education for adults. This program is free to eligible participants.
College Transitions Reading and Composition I & II (*min prerequisite EFL 4 reading) In this course learners gain an awareness of the importance of purpose, audience, and subject when approaching writing. Narrative strategies are explored. The course gives learners the opportunity to read and write in a variety of forms - narrative, expository, creative, and argumentative. Learners gain mastery in the process of drafting, revising, editing, and polishing a piece of work. In developing sophisticated reading and writing skills, learners explore and describe how language works. They learn to observe and analyze the words, patterns and structures that create subtle effects of language. They learn to synthesize material from diverse sources and to document formal MLA research papers.
College Transitions Arithmetic and Algebra: (*min prerequisite EFL 4 Math)
This course is designed to refresh advanced computation skills with emphasis on fractions, word problems and elementary algebra skills to better prepare for the ACCUPLACER placement exam. The algebra portion will review topics, such as: operations with integers and rational numbers; algebraic expressions; solving equations; algebraic fractions; polynomials; factoring and quadratic equations.
Additional on-line practice exercises and instruction are required.
College Success Course: (*min prerequisite EFL 4 Reading)
Students will gain an understanding of the college student experience. The class includes interactive exercises and assignments and in-class discussions covering a variety of topics - transitioning to college life, goal setting, study skills, time management, campus resources and information literacy. The ultimate purpose of the course is to provide an opportunity for students to learn and adopt strategies to be successful in college and beyond.
